The origins of Romano's sound come from a range of American styles. Born and raised in the forgotten New Jersey highlands, he draws influence from '50s rock 'n' roll, doo wop, soul, country, and folk—music that was either listened to in his childhood home or he would have heard on 101.1 CBS FM (back when it was a true Oldies radio station).
